$5,000 Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Is Shutting Down

Disney has announced that its Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser will be permanently shut down on September 28.

The company released a statement today (via WDW News Today) to announce the closing of its immersive hotel experience, but didn’t provide the reason why. It explained that it’s proud of the innovative experience it was able to provide, but will be closing down the hotel in late September. Those who have booked a stay for on or after September 30 will be contacted to modify their plans.

“Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser is one of our most creative projects ever and has been praised by our Guests and recognized for setting a new bar for innovation and immersive entertainment,” Disney said. “This premium experience gave us the opportunity to try new things on a smaller scale of 100 rooms, and we will take what we’ve learned to create future experiences that can reach more of our Guests and fans.

“We will be contacting Guests booked for voyages departing on or after Sept. 30 to discuss their options and modify their plans. To prioritize these Guests, we are pausing new bookings until May 26.”

The Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser launched in March 2022 and offered Star Wars fans the opportunity to immerse themselves in a stay aboard the Halcyon ship. It featured a three-day/two-night experience at the cost of $4,800 for a party of two, $5300 for three, and $6000 for four.

“We are so proud of all of the Cast Members and Imagineers who brought Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser to life and look forward to delivering an excellent experience for Guests during the remaining voyages over the coming months,” Disney added.

In February, it was reported that Disney would be cutting 7,000 jobs amid a major restricting effort and is expected to cuts costs by $5.5 billion. It’s unclear how much of a factor that may have played, if any, in this shutdown.
