After spending a few months as a PlayStation Direct exclusive, the PSVR 2 headset is finally coming to major retailers. The announcement was light on specifics, however, as no date was given for when headsets will start arriving at storefronts beyond PlayStation Direct–and which retailers will even be carrying the popular product. That said, we’d expect it to be available at the usual spots: Amazon, Best Buy, GameStop, Target, Walmart.
For now, attempting to purchase the PSVR 2 headset will route you to the PlayStation Direct website. Eagle-eyed shoppers have spotted listings from ShopTo in the UK that list May 12 as the date of PSVR 2’s arrival, although it’s unclear if that’ll be the case for shops in the United States. At any rate, it’s great to see wider availability of the headset.
PSVR 2 was met with largely positive reviews when it launched in February. Our PSVR 2 review found it to be a solid device with loads of potential, along with premium build quality and surprisingly easy setup.
“The PSVR 2 is undoubtedly a major step forward for PlayStation’s virtual reality ambitions and one of the best headsets on the market, but in the ever-shifting landscape of virtual reality, its price and current value proposition leave it in an awkward position once again,” wrote critic Tamoor Hussain. “I hope that Sony and its partners start thinking outside of the box a bit more when it comes to games, and commit to supporting the platform long-term in a meaningful way–the excellent hardware deserves as much.”
Expect to learn more about PSVR 2 availability in the coming weeks.
